Punk Rock Album Reviews

The Exploited: Punk's Not Dead

History: Released in 1981 on Secret ; Re-released by Harry May (UK on Vinyl)/Grand Slamm (US 1990)/Snapper (w/7 bonus cuts)

Info: I'd start out my punk reviews with THE PUNK album. Need I say more than other than the album has sold more than 150,000 copies (Keep In Mind That this was an indie release) not including the countless dubs of this album out there.

Best Tracks: ALL. (Could something as minimalistic like "Sex and Violence" be so catchy!?)

Rating:*****

The Blood: False Gestures For A Devious Public

History:Originally released by Noise Records in 1983(?); CD rerelease with bonus cuts released by Harry May in 1994

Info: I didn't know what catagory to put these guys in, so I chose the "punk rock" catagory as it's broad enough to encompass anything. How should I describe it? "Shock ruck?" "Thrash Oi?" "Punk-Oi-thrash metal?" As the liner notes say "the band were bridging the then impossible Punk-metal divide" First off, if you're a god fearing Christian, you'll crap your pants if you heard this album. These guys were just absolutely hated by the press because of their "blasphemous" nature and subsequently had their ads featuring their sleeve banned from being printed. Asides from the original album, their debut single, compilation cuts and out takes are included. Included is a lyric sheet if you, like me have trouble interpreting the lyrics. Warning: Can Be A Bit Opera Metal at times.

Best Tracks:Such Fun/ Meglomania/ Calling The Shots/ Napalm Job/ Drunk Addict/ Done Some Brain Cells Last Night/ Degenerate/ Sewer Brain/ Joys Of Noise

Rating:****
